Introduction:

Juglans cathayensis is a deciduous temperate tree widely distributed in southern China and endemic to the hilly mid-elevation area that ranges between the Qinling Mountains-Huai River line (at c. 34°N) and the tropical South (<22°N). The species is monoecious and is pollinated by Wind. It is self-fertile. The main difference from other species of genus Juglans is that the leaflets are densely pubescent and the infructescence is long and drooping. Wood from the tree is used in furniture making. J. cathayensis can survive in many different types of soils varying in pH and moistness.
