Cyclocarya paliurus
is the sole member of the genus Cyclocarya. It is a relict endemic tree in subtropical
China, which produces fruits comprised of a nutlet surrounded by a circular wing.
The tree itself is used in herbal medicine and the landscape horticulture trade.
Trees to 30 m tall. Leaves 20-25 cm; tomentose or sometimes glabrescent; rachis
tomentose; leaf-lets (5 or)7 or 9(or 11), 5-14 × 2-6 cm in size, abaxially pubescent
along midvein and secondary veins. Nutlets compressed globose; disc wing leathery,
orbicular to ovate, 2.5-6 cm.
