Introduction:
Carya illinoinensis is a world-famous commercial nut tree species originated from the United States and Mexico. It is now distributed in more than 20 countries and regions on 5 continents. C. illinoinensis tree is up to 44 m high. Terminal buds yellowish brown, oblong, 6-12 mm, hirsute, scaly; bud scales valvate; axillary buds protected by bracteoles fused into hood. Leaves 40-70 cm in length with (7-)9-13(-17) leaflets, margins finely to coarsely serrate, without tufts of hairs. Nuts tan to brown and mottled with black patches, ovoid-ellipsoid, not compressed, not angled, smooth; shells thin. It has been introduced into China for more than 100 years.
