Introduction:

Carya cathayensis is native to China and mainly distributed to provinces of Anhui, southern Guizhou, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang. Trees to 20 m tall. Terminal buds naked, rusty brown. Leaves 16-30 cm in length; glabrous; rachis pubescent; leaflets 5 or 7, 10-18 × 2-5 cm in size. Nuts ellipsoid, 2-3 × 1.5-2.3 cm in size; husk winged to base; shell with 4 faint, longitudinal ridges, 4-chambered at base, lacunae absent. C. cathayensis is commonly cultivated for its oily, edible nuts, and has a history of more than 500 years since the Ming Dynasty.
